Abstract
Taking into consideration both the anisotropy of two-dimensional photonic crystals and the characteristics of the energy distribution of atomic dipole radiation, we propose a new way to effectively control the atomic spontaneous emission by tuning the polarized orientation of the atoms in these crystals. We find that, at certain positions inside the crystal, the change of the atomic lifetimes can attain a factor of 33.
