Dissipationless quantum spin current at room temperature

  • Spintronics is a new focus in condensed matter physics. We first introduce the concept of quantum spin current, and discuss a new theory which predicts the presence of this current in a large class of hole-doped semiconductors. The magnitude of the spin current is calculated, and its dissipationless property at room temperature is discussed. Finally, two methods of detecting spin current are designed for further experiments.
