Progress in mid-infrared femtosecond pulse generation with difference frequency techniques

  • Femtosecond pulsed lasers in the mid-infrared spectral range have wide applications in basic research and civil and military areas. Several methods to generate mid-infrared femtosecond pulses are reviewed. In view of the advantages of the difference frequency technique, we describe its development and present a summary of perspectives for future research.
