Abstract
Raman′s life and his main contributions to the development of physics are reviewed. We describe how he started from observing the blue color of the sea, then discovered the scattering of lihght by gases and liquids, and finally determined that the scattered light consists of not only the original wavelength but also different wavelengths——a new type of light scattering process. This paper explores the reasons for his success and discusses what inspirations we can draw from him.
