High sensitivity magnetic sensors:from classical to quantum sensing

  • From the compasses used for navigation since ancient times, to the detection of magnetic anomalies in geophysical exploration, then to the capture of magnetic signals generated by bioelectrical activity in magnetocardiography and magnetoencephalography, and further to the study of the microscopic structure of matter and macroscopic physical phenomena, the precision of magnetic measurement directly determines the depth of related scientific discoveries and the breadth of technological applications. High-sensitivity sensors are the key issue for the accuracy and development of magnetic sensing technology. This article summarizes the different high-sensitivity magnetic sensors for use in a variety of applications.
