Origin of the elements in the universe

  • Most of the lithium and all the elements heavier than lithium in the universe are created by nuclear processes happening in stars. In this paper, nucleosynthesis at these astrophysical sites is briefly reviewed. Some frontier topics, such as the nucleosynthesis of heavy elements from iron to uranium and deep underground nuclear astrophysics experiments, are also discussed.
