Progress in superintense ultrafast lasers and their applications

  • Superintense ultrafast lasers can be used to create extreme physical conditions with unprecedented ultrahigh energy density, superintense electromagnetic field, and ultrafast temporal scale. As one of the most competitive scientific and technological frontiers, there are a series of significant applications of superintense ultrafast lasers in laser acceleration, attosecond science,laser fusion, plasma physics, nuclear physics and medicine, atomic and molecular physics, laboratory astrophysics, high energy physics and etc. The fundamental concept, status and future tendency of superintense ultrafast lasers are briefly introduced. Finally, some typical applications of superintense ultrafast lasers are briefly described.
