Applications of artificial intelligence in open quantum many-body systems

  • Realistic quantum systems are inevitably coupled to their surrounding environments and this coupling intertwines with quantum many-body effects to produce rich nonequilibrium physics. A central challenge in studying open quantum many-body systems is that the dimension of the density matrix grows exponentially with system size, while dissipation, interactions, and external driving often act simultaneously and cannot be treated in isolation. This review introduces recent progress in applying artificial intelligence to open quantum manybody systems, focusing on two complementary directions: forward simulation of dissipative dynamics and inverse design for quantum control.
