Abstract: A review is first given of the background of Laue′s discover which gave rise to two branches of science, X－ray spectroscopy and X－ray crystallography. This is followed by a review of the remarkable contributions of Bragg, father and son to these two areas, and a discussion of the far－reaching influence of X－ray crystallography.
